About Stewarts Care
Stewarts Care is a Charitable Foundation that has been caring for people with intellectual disabilities for more than 140 years. It has a wide range of facilities which include medical care units, administration buildings, educational buildings, residential units, bungalows for independent living and a leisure centre.
Working together, we addressed Stewarts Care’s challenges to secure a reliable supply of sustainable, efficient energy to meet the evolving needs of the campus.
With unreliable plant and equipment, Stewarts Care was facing unpredictable energy and maintenance costs. Having carried out a successful maintenance project at one of Stewart Care’s smaller sites in Kilcloon, Veolia was asked to explore solutions that would use energy in more reliable, efficient and sustainable ways at the main campus in Palmerstown.
- A brand new energy centre with a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) unit was purpose built to generate 140kW of electricity
- Energy-efficient lighting upgrades, boiler controls and a complete energy monitoring and targeting system.
- Solar hot water systems have been installed in 23 buildings, heating zones in 27 buildings and cavity wall and attic insulation in 22 buildings
- To minimise the cost of the investment, Veolia helped Stewarts Care to secure a grant from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI)
To date, our solution has helped Stewarts Care to save 37% in site energy costs. That’s a saving of >€1 million over 5 years with 1,250 tonnes of CO2 saved.
"The comfort of our residents is our number one priority. Thanks to Veolia’s expertise in energy management, coupled with a deep understanding of the technologies involved, we now have a warm, bright and energy-efficient site. One that enhances client well-being at the same time as reducing costs.”
