The Energy Audit scheme is the Government's response to implementing Article 8 of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive that requires member states to ensure that large organisations undertake an energy audit by 5th December 2015.

## Who needs to comply?

You will need to carry out an Energy Audit by 5th December 2015 if your organisation meets either of the following criteria:

- Employs at least **250 people**; *or*
- Has an annual turnover in excess of **€50 million**, and an annual balance sheet in excess of **€43 million**

## What does it involve?

- Assess and audit the energy use of your key buildings, transportation and industrial or commercial processes
- Determine the areas that represent at least 70% of the total energy consumption
- Appoint a Registered Energy Auditor capable of managing the requirements set out in the Energy Audit Scheme
- Find cost-effective ways to improve energy efficiency in areas of high energy consumption
- Notify SEAI once the CEO or Director has signed off a completed Energy Audit assessment and you are compliant with your obligations under the scheme.
