Health & Safety - creating a safe work environment
At Veolia Ireland, we maintain an unwavering commitment to Health & Safety excellence, creating a proactive safety culture that prioritises the wellbeing of all of our stakeholders.
We implement a comprehensive range of measures across our operations including regular risk assessments, detailed safety protocols, stringent operational procedures and role specific training programmes along with providing the right safety equipment and personal protective gear.
This dedicated week provides an invaluable opportunity for our employees to share experiences and learn from each other. Using dynamic safety-focused activities including interactive workshops, practical demonstrations and specialised training sessions we collectively strengthen our safety protocols.
Through active participation and engagement, employees contribute to Veolia Ireland's zero-harm objective, ensuring the wellbeing of all our stakeholders, from staff and contractors to customers and the public. Safety Week exemplifies our continuous investment in creating and maintaining a safer workplace throughout our Irish operations.
Our teams across Ireland work closely with Uisce Éireann as we implement their 'Am I SAFE?' campaign enhancing safety awareness across the water infrastructure projects we are delivering for Uisce Éireann:
- Stop and evaluate potential hazards
- Assess tasks, work areas, and equipment
- Follow established procedures and protocols
- Engage with supervisors when plans change
Moving beyond conventional training methods, we've used an immersive experience featuring professional actors staging real-life accident scenarios in collaboration with Theatre at Work. This unique approach emphasises how every team member from office staff to site operatives and managers plays a crucial role in maintaining safety and ensuring everyone returns home safely.
Wellbeing - creating a positive work environment
At Veolia Ireland, we are committed to fostering a workplace culture that prioritises the physical and mental wellbeing of our employees.
Understanding that a healthy, balanced, and supported workforce is essential for both individual success and organisational excellence, our comprehensive wellbeing programme addresses the physical, mental, financial and nutrition needs of our team members. We create an annual programme where our employees can join various wellbeing activities such as talks, webinars, guest speakers and physical activities to suit all locations and roles.
Social wellbeing plays a key role in fostering a positive workplace culture. We make sure that our teams come together for social events to connect outside of the workplace.
For example on Social Wellbeing Day, our employees across the country gather for a casual lunch, fostering camaraderie and building stronger connections within our Veolia community.

Learning & development - creating an advanced work environment
At Veolia Ireland, we constantly support ongoing professional development.
We encourage skills and career development for all of our employees. We have a comprehensive training and people development policy to help our people to develop the skills needed to contribute to delivering sustainable solutions for our customers and to help Veolia to meet our own objectives.
To enable online learning to suit individual employees, all our employees have access to Saba, our online learning and development platform. Using Saba allows us to deliver training on any device at any time in any location. Each year everyone sets personnel training objectives to improve current skills or learn new ones based on their career development plans.
We are an Engineers Ireland accredited employer for our commitment to CPD.

Step Up programme
Each year a group of managers completes the Veolia Ireland Step Up Leadership Development Programme
This programme enables a step up in both knowledge and direction for individuals identified as potential future leaders of Veolia. A range of skills are developed which are then applied through allocated projects based on real-world scenarios occurring in the business.

Leadership Cadre programme
The Veolia UK and Ireland Leadership Cadre programme supports our highest performers
The programme enables the development of an agile, empowered and change-oriented culture at Veolia that fosters innovation and supports the delivery of our strategy.
Diversity and Inclusion - creating an inclusive work environment
At Veolia Ireland, we’re committed to increasing workplace diversity and inclusion because we understand the value this can add to our workforce.
To guide us in raising awareness of the importance of diversity, our Inclusion Strategy, 5 by 25, encourages us all to take responsibility and engage in important conversations, however and whenever they are needed.
Our efforts encompass targeted recruitment strategies to attract diverse talent, mentorship programs to support career development for underrepresented groups, and regular diversity training sessions for staff at all levels.
A founding signatory of the Elevate Pledge
Veolia Ireland signs up to Elevate: the Inclusive Workplace Pledge
Elevate is BITC Ireland’s new pledge to support businesses which are committed to improving diversity and inclusion in the workplace
As part of our commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace, we have partnered with Business in the Community Ireland, by signing up to the Elevate: the Inclusive Workplace Pledge. This pledge represents a significant step in promoting inclusion in the workplace and demonstrates our dedication to creating real, measurable, and meaningful impact.
Our involvement in this initiative goes beyond mere participation. Sinéad Patton (our Chief Finance and Commercial Officer), as co-chair of the Leaders Sub Group on Social Inclusion, and Donna Marie Masterson (our Head of HR) played key roles in developing the Elevate Pledge, shaping inclusive practices not just within our organisation, but across the business community in Ireland.
An Autism friendly workplace
Veolia Ireland has achieved Autism Friendly Workplace accreditation from As I Am, Ireland's national Autism support charity, enabling us to tap into the potential of Autistic talent while maintaining an accessible and accepting workplace.
As I Am, an Autistic-led advocacy organisation, has conducted comprehensive audits of our Dublin and Kilkenny facilities and provided guidance on implementing Autism-friendly recruitment practices. This includes improvements to our interview processes, job specifications, and communication methods.
Our partnership with As I Am extends beyond workplace modifications. We offer support services to both our employees and their families, including access to an Autism information and support line and a dedicated Child and Family Support Programme.

Through our work with As I Am, we have developed an environment where neurodivergent individuals contribute their unique perspectives and abilities to our organisation.
