Veolia in Ireland has been accredited for the fourth time with the prestigious Business Working Responsibly Mark, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to sustainable and responsible business practices.
Established in 2010 by Business in the Community Ireland, the Business Working Responsibly Mark (‘the Mark’) is Ireland’s Economic, Environmental, Social, and Governance (EESG) standard. Independently verified by the National Standards Authority of Ireland, it is the standard for sustainability that goes beyond legal compliance by fostering a culture of responsible business through continuous improvement, ongoing accountability, and leadership.
Achieving the Mark successfully hinges on Veolia's commitment to:
- Economic Impact: Creating a positive and sustainable economic footprint
- Environmental Impact: Responsibly managing total environmental footprint across all operations and throughout the value chain
- Social Engagement: Engaging effectively with key social stakeholders
- Governance: Implementing robust governance procedures
Decision making based on Multifaceted Performance
Veolia is committed to giving the same level of attention to its financial and non-financial performance dimensions. What this means in practice is that we give equal consideration to the impact of our business decisions on five stakeholder groups:
- employees,
- customers,
- shareholders,
- representatives of society, and
- the planet.
Veolia’s success in being reaccredited is based on the successful implementation of multifaceted performance in Ireland and matching it with the EESG reporting model.
Commenting on Veolia’s successful reaccreditation to the Mark, Sinéad Patton, Chief Finance and Commercial Officer for Veolia in Ireland said:
“Looking at all aspects of our business to ensure that we deliver for our customers, our people and our communities is the foundation of being a sustainable business. Achieving the Business Working Responsibly Mark for the fourth time is a powerful acknowledgement of the work done across all aspects of our business to operate in a responsible way. I am very proud of this achievement.”

Organisations achieving the Mark are eligible to join the Responsible Business Association, a movement to champion and progress the Association’s collective sustainability impact. Veolia is a founding member of the Association with Veolia’s representative serving as Vice Chair.
Once again, Veolia’s operations in Northern Ireland are included in the scope of the certification.
Tomas Sercovich, CEO BITCI said
"We congratulate Veolia Ireland on being certified with the Business Working Responsibly Mark for a fourth time. It clearly demonstrates the Mark is aligned with Veolia's purpose of Ecological Transformation, which is being realised through the Green Up strategic programme and supported by strong management systems. This recertification highlights their ongoing maturity and drive for continuous improvements especially in managing purpose and strategy. We applaud the entire team involved."
